It would appear that despite the underwhelming weather this summer driving everyone indoors, Microsofts annual ‘Summer of Arcade’ promotion still struggled to rake in the sales. The promotion has ran each summer since 2009 and always offers some form of incentive for buying multiple games in the promotion. This year Microsoft offered 400ms points back to anyone who bought at least three of the five promoted games. Despite starting off fairly solidly with Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD, the sales then really struggled thereafter, with Wreckateer becoming the least selling Summer of Arcade game since the promotion began. Lets take a look at the numbers*:

*Numbers reflect the number of users on the leaderboards within the first week of each game being released.

  • Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD- 98,000 users.
  • Deadlight- 53,000 users.
  • Wreckateer- 6629 users.
  • Hybrid- 12,168.
  • Dust: An Elysian Tail- 32,000 users.

Although somewhat underwhelming, the five games were by no means bad so is quite a surprise to see such poor sales figures. To put the numbers into perspective, Counter Strike: Global Offensive managed nearly 150,000 players in it first week, and that was without the benefit of any promotions. I personally only bought  Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD from the summer of arcade, and you can find my review on the website. We want to know your opinions too, did you buy any of the games? Were they worth it? Let us know in the comments below.
