Marvel Rivals is turning 2026 into a road to Doomsday
June 3, 2026·3 min read
Marvel Rivals is giving players something bigger to follow through 2026 than a normal event calendar. NetEase has revealed the Path to Doomsday roadmap, a run of special events built around Avengers history as the game moves toward Avengers: Doomsday later this year.
The first event already shows the kind of idea that can make this work. Instead of another standard match with themed rewards attached, Path to Doomsday: The Avengers puts six players against one powered-up Loki in a limited-time mode that feels closer to a superhero boss fight.
Loki gives the roadmap a strong first hook
Starting with Loki makes sense because he can change the pace of a match without needing a complicated setup. A six-vs-one mode immediately feels different from the usual team fight, and it gives players a reason to coordinate instead of playing like they are in a normal round.
That is the kind of change Marvel Rivals needs from these events. The game already has plenty of chaos, but special modes can push that chaos into new shapes. A stronger villain, a different win condition, or a temporary rule change can make the event feel like something worth logging in for.

The Avengers theme gives the year some direction
The roadmap is built around Avengers-inspired moments, which gives NetEase an easy way to guide players through the year. That structure also helps the game avoid feeling like it is dropping random events with no connection between them.
Players will want each stop to feel different, whether that means new modes, limited-time rewards, themed challenges, or character-focused twists.
That is where the roadmap has potential. Marvel Rivals has a roster built for big event ideas, and the Avengers theme gives it plenty of room to play with villains, team-ups, and familiar Marvel scenarios.
The movie connection cannot do all the work
The link to Avengers: Doomsday will get attention, but it will not be enough by itself. Players will keep returning only if the events feel fun inside the game.
That means NetEase has to make each update feel playable first and promotional second. Skins, references, and movie energy can help, but the modes need to carry the weight.
The Loki event is a good opening because it changes how players approach a match. If future events follow that idea instead of only adding themed rewards, Path to Doomsday could become one of the game’s strongest live-service runs so far.
The next events need to keep the momentum
The roadmap now has a clear starting point. The harder part is keeping players interested after the first event ends.
NetEase will need to show what comes next soon, especially if the plan is to make 2026 feel like one long build toward Doomsday. Players will be watching for fresh modes, worthwhile rewards, and events that actually use Marvel’s biggest heroes and villains in fun ways.
